Other literature

The objective here is to provide links to the CDLI catalogue sources for the literary works given by ETCSL. The notes also tie the etcsl catalogue numbers to the corresponding Q-catalogue numbers (used in CDLI as composite id's). In principle, the etcsl web-pages list the cuneiform sources for each of the literary works considered. However, in practice, there are sometimes difficulties in relating the sources listed by etcsl to those in the CDLI catalogue and so notes are included considering some of these difficulties.

etcsl 5.1.3 = Q000756: The advice of a supervisor to a younger scribe (E-dub-ba-a C)

In the etcsl list, N 1159 is given as part of N 1071+, whereas it is part of the case of UM 29-16-092 (P256697). The CDLI photo shows N 7468 is physically joined to N 3434 (and not to N 6882). Etcsl also lists N 3041 + N 3042 for Nisaba A (4.16.1), but the CDLI photos show two very small fragments, furthermore they have not been joined. For 3N-T362+, etcsl includes IM 58477 whereas CDLI has IM 58447. Peterson (UF 42 535f) joins N 1072+ to N 1071+, joins N 7703+ to CBS 15211 and adds N 7439 to the list.

etcsl 5.2.4 = Q000788: A man and his god

In the etcsl list, CBS 8321 (STVC 2) is also joined to 3 N-series fragments including N 3151. Also Ni 45787 should be Ni 4587. Peterson (UF 42, 535f) adds a number of fragments to CBS 8321+.

etcsl 5.2.5 = Q000789: The poem of early rulers

All of the three tablets listed by etcsl here are also listed for etcsl 2.8.5.a and two of them are listed for etcsl 2.8.5.b.

etcsl 5.3.1 = Q000760: The debate between Hoe and Plough

In the etcsl list, Ashm 1923-765 should be OECT 5, 34. The CDLI photos show that N 6477 is not joined to CBS 2192+. Also for CBS 2192+, it should be UM 29-13-687 (and not 867); and this tablet includes N 7894 (+) N 7892. In CDLI, CBS 7820 is part of a tablet listed as Curse of Agade (etcsl 2.1.5). UET 6 *82 + *307 = UET 6/3, 626; UET 6 *10b = UET 6/3, 625; and following Shaffer, there is a quasi-join between these. In etcsl, 3N-T 901,60 should be 3N-T902,60. And there should be a quasi-join between 3N-T905,192 and 3N-T902,98+. CDLI lists several other examples under this heading. See also Peterson (UF 42, 535f).

etcsl 5.3.2 = Q000761: The debate between Grain and Sheep

In etcsl, the refs. given for the ISET 2 plate nos. for Ni 2321, 4106 & 4462 should be 75, 71 & 71 respectively. The tablet listed as Ni 4086 in etcsl and CDLI is given as Ni 4036 by Alster & Vanstiphout. In the etcsl listing, 3N-T305 = A 3026 would appear to be in error because the 3N-T fragments are usually associated with five digit A-series museum numbers. CDLI also lists N 3694. Peterson (UF 42, 535f) adds N 4361 and joins N 3133 to CBS 6983+.

etcsl 5.3.3 = Q000762: The debate between Winter and Summer

In CDLI, CBS 13857+ incorporates many fragments (as listed by Gerardi OPBK 8, 173). At this stage, CDLI follows Vanstiphout (NABU 1987, 87) and joins CBS 8886 to Ni 4004, Ni 4068 & Ni 9909 (i.e. it does not join Ni 4004 to CBS 13857). Similarly, CBS 8310 includes more fragments than those listed by etcsl. CDLI lists Ni 2750 as etcsl 5.1.1 (an edubba text) but gives Ni 2705 as Winter & Summer, so perhaps the etcsl list should have included Ni 2705 instead of Ni 2750. CDLI also lists Ni 4359 and N 3254+. Vanstiphout (NABU 1987, 087 lists Ni 9799 (ISET 1, 185) under this heading. Peterson (UF 42, 535f) adds 3N-T902,080.

etcsl 5.3.5 = Q000764: The debate between Bird and Fish

In the etcsl list, N 2192+ should include N 3747 (not 3474 which is part of CBS 15150+). N 2192+ also includes N 7049 and N 7878. N 1750+ also includes N 7447. UET 6 *472 = UET 6/3, 628 and UET 6 *394 = UET 6/3, 627. The CDLI list also includes N 3736 & N 6579 (following Peterson, UF 42, 535f).

etcsl 5.3.6 = Q000765: The debate between Copper and Silver

The etcsl list should include CBS 15359 (not CBS 15350 which is a Neo-Babylonian brick). Peterson (UF 42, 535f) adds CBS 6833+.

etcsl 5.3.7 = Q000766: The debate between Date Palm and Tamarisk

Sb 12354 has been published by Cavigneaux in Fs Wilcke pp. 53-58, OBC 14, 2003.

etcsl 5.4.11 = Q000773: A diatribe against Engar-dug (Diatribe B)

In CDLI, CBS 2186 is joined to CBS 2331 (following Peterson UF 42, 535f). IB 1296 = IM 90024.

etcsl 5.4.12 = Q000774: He is a good seed of a dog (Diatribe C)

etcsl 5.5.1 = Q000775: The message of Lu-diĝira to his mother

etcsl 5.5.2 = Q000776: An elegy on the death of Nannaya

Peterson (UF 42, 535f) adds UM 29-15-600.

etcsl 5.5.3 = Q000777: An elegy on the death of Nawirtum

etcsl 5.5.4 = Q000778: The song of the hoe

In CDLI, CBS 13122, CBS 13382, CBS 13864 & CBS 13877 are listed as both Song of the Hoe (etcsl 5.5.4) and Debate between Hoe and Plough (etcsl 5.3.1). In CDLI, N 7260 is joined to N 1737+. The tablet listed as UCLM 9-2857 is given in CDLI as HMA 9-02857; that listed as ROM D-1034 is given in CDLI as ROM 910x209.501, with accession no. 1034. In the listing of the UET 6/3 fragments, etcsl 5.5.4 omits the asterisks denoting provisional numbers; the relevant published UET 6/3 nos. are 643-645 and 726. Etcsl lists 3N-T674 = IM 58609; however, in CDLI 3N-T674 = IM 58690 and it is a lexical tablet. CDLI adds K 6697 + K 8069 (obv.).

etcsl 5.5.5 = Q000779: The song of the ploughing oxen: an ululumama to Ninurta

In CDLI, Ist Ni 1250+ includes N 6727.

etcsl 5.5.a = Q000781: A drinking song

etcsl 5.6.1 = Q000782: The instructions of Šuruppag

In CDLI, AbS-T 393 is joined to AbS-T 305. Also CBS 2203 is joined to CBS 13107; and MM 477 is joined to MM 864. In CDLI, the Copenhagen tablet is written as CNMA 10054 (using C rather than K). UET 6 *59 = UET 6/3, 646; *227 = UET 6/3, 647. CDLI also includes UET 6/3, 648, following Shaffer. In etcsl, it should be 3N-T907,264 (instead of 906). CDLI also includes: 3N-T0515 = UM 55-21-334; 3N-T907,282; 3N-T0543; and Ist Ni 4715. See also Peterson (UF 42, 535f).

etcsl 5.6.3 = Q000784: The farmer's instructions

Peterson (UF 42, 535f) joins N 6899 to CBS 14024 and adds 3N-T906,223 & N 2639+ to the list

etcsl 5.6.5 = Q000785: The three ox-drivers from Adab

In etcsl, it should be AO 8149 (not 9149). AO 7739 and AO 8149 are part of the same tablet. Peterson (UF 42, 535f) adds UM 29-16-719

etcsl 5.7.1 = Q000790: Enlil and Nam-zid-tara

etcsl 5.7.2 = Q000791: A dog for Nintinuga

etcsl 5.7.3 = Q000792: An axe for Nergal

It is clear from the CDLI photo that the fragment in CBS 14049+ should be N 846 (not N 864). PBS 15, 65 (= CBS 19912) is a fragment of an Middle Babylonian alabaster slab and the inscription appears to concern the building of a temple.

etcsl 5.7.a = Q002338: Public announcement of the loss of a seal

In CDLI, CBS 2231 is joined to UM 29-15-384. In CDLI, ist Ni 9701+ also includes N 3210 & N 3431. Peterson (UF 42, 535f) adds UM 29-13-503.

etcsl 5.9.1 = Q000793: The home of the fish

etcsl 5.9.2 = Q000794: The heron and the turtle

In the etcsl list, N 2267 should be changed to N 2667. To the etcsl list of print sources should now be added Peterson's PhD thesis. Peterson (pp.293-294) joins N 3072 to N 6741 and adds to the list Ist Ni 2526.
