Both Elam and Assyria sent armies to Ellipi to support their candidate but the Assyrians won. Later on, Sargon made in-roads to Elamite territory as a pre-emptive measure against interference from Shutruk-Nahhunte in his conflict with Babylon. He seized the fortified towns of Sam'una, Bab-Duri, and Lahiru, along with others, which prompted the Elamite king to hide in the mountains. He was ultimately deposed by his brother Hallushu.
